HOW IT WORKS
The commission
process.
Every piece I make begins with a conversation and ends with something that couldn't have been made any other way. Here's what you can expect from the moment you reach out to the moment your work is delivered.
Getting started
The initial conversation
Every commission starts with a simple inquiry — tell me about your project, your space, and what you're imagining. There are no wrong answers at this stage. We'll discuss your vision, your timeline, and whether this is the right fit.
There's no pressure and no commitment at this stage. I take on a limited number of commissions each year to ensure each one receives the attention it deserves.
SCOPING THE WORK
Proposal & agreement
Once we've talked through the project, I'll prepare a detailed written proposal: scope of work, motifs, dimensions, materials, timeline, and a line-by-line pricing breakdown. This becomes the foundation of our commission agreement.
I also ask clients to complete a brief scope confirmation questionnaire — a simple document that ensures we both have identical expectations before a single brushstroke is placed.
A signed agreement and 50% deposit are required before work begins. The deposit is non-refundable once painting has commenced on final pieces.
Before painting begins
Design approval
Before I commit to final pieces, you will review and approve all reference imagery, color palette, motif style, and composition layout — in writing. For fabric commissions, I also present a hand-painted sample on the actual substrate for your sign-off.
This stage protects both of us. Once approval is given, the creative direction is set. Changes after this point are possible but handled through a written change order.
The work itself
Painting
All work is executed in my Austin studio, by hand, with multiple layers of detail built up over the course of the project. You'll receive progress updates at key milestones — and I'll come to you immediately if anything unexpected arises that warrants a conversation.
Hand-painted work takes the time it takes. I will never rush a piece at the expense of quality, and I'll always tell you before a timeline shifts.
Finishing
Final review & delivery
Before delivery, I conduct a full quality review and final detail pass across all pieces. You'll receive photographs of the completed work for your approval. Final balance is due upon delivery.
Work is delivered to you or your designated fabricator. From that point, the piece is yours — and I hope it brings you joy every time you pass it.
